August 16, 2024, Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol – The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation, Inc. together with the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) Coastal Resource Management Division, in collaboration with the AFOS Foundation and the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Bohol Island State University (BISU) Clarin Campus and the Municipal Agriculture Office of LGU President Carlos P. Garcia, successfully facilitated the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Management Effectiveness Assessment Tool (MEAT) Evaluation of the twenty-one (21) Marine Protected Areas in the Municipality of President Carlos P. Garcia where CPG is a part of the Danajon Bank Double Barrier Reef. The event took place at Poblacion Gym in Municipality of President Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol.
This evaluation aimed to assess the effectiveness of the management strategies employed by the Marine Protected Area. By using the MEAT evaluation, the assessment sought to determine whether the current management tools and practices effectively safeguard marine biodiversity and ecosystems. The results of this assessment will guide future conservation efforts, ensuring that the sanctuary’s management council can adapt and enhance their approaches to better protect and sustain the rich marine life within their muncipality.
