October 16-18, 2024, Baclayon, Bohol – The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF), alongside its partners, beneficiaries, and key stakeholders, successfully concluded the Annual Project Monitoring and Evaluation for the Protect Danajon Project. The three-day event was a crucial opportunity for everyone involved to come together and assess the progress of the project’s first year, celebrate its accomplishments, and plan the next phase for continued success.
On Day 1, the activity opened with a presentation of the Year 1 achievements by CCEF. This review highlighted the significant progress made in the protection of the Danajon Bank Double Barrier Reef, emphasizing the milestones reached in improving marine conservation efforts. Participants were then engaged in identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Means of Verification (MOVs) to measure the impact and effectiveness of the project as it moves forward. A key aspect of the day was the detailed discussion around the targets met in Year 1, ensuring that all stakeholders understood how these outcomes align with the project’s overarching goals.
Day 2 was centered around the development of a robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework. Facilitated by Ms. Ellen Grace Gallares of Eggzos Consulting Services, the session used a participatory approach to ensure that all voices were heard in crafting a comprehensive plan for tracking and improving project performance. This process underscored the importance of accountability, transparency, and data-driven decision-making in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Danajon Bank’s conservation efforts. During the afternoon session, various methods for monitoring project progress were discussed, allowing participants to explore tools and techniques that could be adapted to suit the specific needs of the project.
On Day 3, the focus shifted to forward planning. The stakeholders worked together to review the strategic plan of the Bohol Danajon Bank Double Barrier Reef Management Council (BDBDBRMC) and began outlining activities for 2025. The stakeholders were actively involved in identifying critical actions and priorities to address ongoing challenges, ensuring that the project’s next phase is built on collaboration and shared responsibility.
Although some activities were carried over to Year 2 due to external factors, stakeholders expressed overall satisfaction with the project’s progress. The Protect Danajon Project received positive feedback for its accomplishments and the strong collaboration built among all involved parties, highlighting the project’s ability to adapt and maintain momentum despite challenges.
Stakeholders were recognized for their invaluable contributions to the project, with CCEF reiterating the importance of maintaining momentum in achieving the project’s conservation goals. This annual activity not only allowed for reflection on past successes but also paved the way for stronger partnerships and a clearer path forward.
As CCEF and its partners look ahead to Year 2, they remain dedicated to safeguarding this unique marine ecosystem for future generations.
