Dive into Conservation: Saving Philippine Reefs Expedition 2024 at Tubbataha Reef

The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) hosted the Saving Philippine Reefs Expedition 2024 in Tubbataha Reef from May 17 to 24, 2024. The expedition’s main goal was to evaluate the permanent monitoring stations of the Saving Philippine Reefs project, focusing on live hard coral percent cover, fish biomass, density, and diversity in Tubbataha Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Initiated in the 1980s, the Saving Philippine Reefs (SPR) Project is CCEF’s annual research and fundraising endeavor aimed at enhancing the quality and quantity of information available on coral reefs. The information generated contributes to the Tubbataha Management Office’s Database in improving management practices and developing effective policies for the conservation and sustainable use of these vital resources.

During the expedition, 16 international volunteers from Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with eight staff members from the CCEF, participated. Here are some of the photos taken by our CCEF Staff during the expedition:
