Impactful Training of Facilitators in Municipal Coastal and Fisheries Resource Management Planning!

From June 18-21, 2024, the Protect Danajon Project, in partnership with the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), conducted a four-day Training of Facilitators for the Development of Municipal Coastal and Fisheries Resource Management Plans.

The training brought together 10 local government units (LGUs) from the Bohol Danajon Bank area, with an additional 20 LGUs from outside the region joining, thanks to the support of the Provincial Government of Bohol. This gathering demonstrated the province’s collective commitment to improving coastal management.

Participants were equipped with essential knowledge in sustainable coastal and fisheries resource management, learning strategies to enhance local efforts. The training emphasized the importance of accurate data collection for developing effective Coastal Resource Management (CRM) and Fisheries Management plans.

The event also focused on building capacity for crafting comprehensive CRM plans at the municipal level, providing practical skills for planning at both local and provincial levels. Facilitators ensured participants could distinguish between Municipal/City and Provincial CRM/Fisheries Plans, aligning efforts for better governance.

This training empowered local leaders with the tools and inspiration needed to protect Bohol’s coastal and marine resources. As they return to their communities, these facilitators are prepared to implement plans that will preserve the Danajon Bank and other vital ecosystems for future generations.
