Securing the Coasts on World Oceans Day

JPMorgan Chase & Co. Volunteers together with the CCEF Staff.

In celebration of the World Oceans Day, the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) has partnered with JPMorgan Chase & Co. for a coastal clean-up at Cot-cot, Liloan, Cebu, last June 8, 2019.

The coastal area in Purok Bakhaw, Cot-cot, Liloan is a small mangrove area maintained by a small community and People’s Organizations. Although the Cotcot River naturally provides the necessary current and nutrients needed for the growth of the mangroves, it also brings along with its garbage, trash, and waste from upstream.

The day started with a brief orientation on the Coastal Cleanup. Volunteers were divided into five groups and prepared their boots, gloves, sacks, and slateboards for the cleanup. Each team had a designated space along the coast, and the group with the most garbage collected won a special award from CCEF.
