In celebration of the World Oceans Day, the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) has partnered with JPMorgan Chase & Co. for a coastal clean-up at Cot-cot, Liloan, Cebu, last June 8, 2019.
The coastal area in Purok Bakhaw, Cot-cot, Liloan is a small mangrove area maintained by a small community and People’s Organizations. Although the Cotcot River naturally provides the necessary current and nutrients needed for the growth of the mangroves, it also brings along with its garbage, trash, and waste from upstream.
The day started with a brief orientation on the Coastal Cleanup. Volunteers were divided into five groups and prepared their boots, gloves, sacks, and slateboards for the cleanup. Each team had a designated space along the coast, and the group with the most garbage collected won a special award from CCEF.
After the cleanup, the volunteers gathered for the closing of the event.
Group 1 was awarded with the most trash collected and received CCEF booklets as prize. Afterwards, JPMorgan Chase & Co. Cebu Site Manager, Vineet Rohatgi delivered his closing remarks on how he continues to encourage the company to be involved in conserving the environment as a form of raising awareness during the Environmental Awareness month.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. also decided to donate their boots to the local People’s Organization of Cot-cot Liloan. Solita Panugan, Councilor of Cot-cot Liloan also made her closing remarks, thanking JPMorgan Chase & Co. and CCEF for their dedication to securing the coasts. She also invites the team, and everyone, to feel free and also visit and participate in their mangrove planting programs.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to JPMorgan Chase & Co. for your willingness to support CCEF’s advocacy in securing the coasts for a sustainable future!
