JUNE 11, 2021— CCEF joined a municipality-wide coastal and underwater cleanup at Sumilon Island, Oslob, Cebu together with members of the Philippine Coastguard, Para El Mar evaluators and some of the CCEF Monitoring team members.
The Para El Mar MPA Awards is a nationwide biennial event which showcases that best performing MPAs in the Philippines.
Established in 1974, The Island of Sumilon was the first Municipal established Marine Protected Area in the Philippines. Having established its enforcement and management system for over 30 years, Sumilon is considered one of the best MPAs in Southeast Cebu.
