Bien Unido’s MPA Workshop: A Step Toward Stronger Conservation

July 29-30 and August 5-6, 2024, Bien Unido, Bohol – The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation, Inc. (CCEF), successfully conducted the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Reorganization and Planning Workshop in partnership with the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), DENR CENRO Talibon, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Bohol Island State University (BISU) Clarin Campus, and the Municipal Agriculture Office of LGU Bien Unido. This initiative, conducted in two sessions, brought together key stakeholders to enhance the management and sustainability of 15 MPAs in the Municipality of Bien Unido.

The first session involved participants from the Pinamgo, Puerto San Pedro, Nueva Estrella, Nueva Esperanza, Mandawa, Liberty, and Malingin MPAs, while the second session brought together representatives from the Bilangbilangan East, Bilangbilangan Daku, Hingotanan East, Hingotanan West, Maomawan, and Sagasa MPAs.

The workshop centered on revitalizing the MPA Management Councils and collaboratively crafting customized 5-year management plans for each MPA. This initiative is pivotal in ensuring that these vital marine ecosystems are not only effectively managed but also preserved for the long term.
