CCEF together with the Philippine National Police-Provincial Police Office Cebu, Ugly Grouper SCUBA Divers and Southside Freedivers joined an underwater cleanup in Dalaguete and Argao, Cebu.
Located at the southeast of Cebu Province, Dalaguete and Argao are one of the hotspots of the highest number of fisherfolk registered in Southeast Cebu. Its complex reef formation and extensive shoreline make it suitable for coral reefs to grow and for fishes to thrive. Many divers even found endangered sea turtles and other pelagic fishes frequenting these reefs!
Unfortunately, despite the bounty of these reefs, a study by CCEF on the MPAs of Argao and Dalaguete in 2019 has found these areas to be overfished, with many corals destroyed by the typhoon and plastic pollution even making the situation worse.
Last August 3 and 10, CCEF together with some of its partners joined an underwater cleanup and Crown of Thorns Removal to help free the seas from plastic.
