the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the Gerry Roxas Foundation (GRF), conducted a comprehensive 5-day training workshop. Held from August 7-11, 2023, at the Park Inn by Radissons Hotel in Davao City, this workshop focused on the Essential Ecosystem-based Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM). The training aimed to equip civil society organizations, project grantees, and their local partners with the knowledge and skills to support strategic management action planning and decision-making.
The 34 participants from civil society organizations project grantees and their local partners received this training to support strategic management action planning and decision-making in the direction of a more effective, accountable, and sustainable fisheries management in the Philippines. The said training workshop was designed to equip grantee organizations to implement project activities in their priority sites anchored on EAFM. This also targeted to develop more detailed activities to meet the project’s and INSPIRE’s goals. The participants were able to gain understanding about the composite of the EAFM, viewed the bigger picture of connectivity, and ensures the application of this training to their partners and community.
Ecosystem-based approach to Fisheries Management is a holistic approach that offers practical and effective ways of managing fisheries resources by balancing the environmental, human, and social well-being within enhanced governance frameworks towards the resources’ sustainability.
